Neutralising - Toning Down

Sometimes a colour is too bright, for example it is distant hill but it is too colourfull, which makes it jump forward losing the illusion of depth, by simply adding it’s complimenatry colour we can neutralise it.

An example of this would be a faraway tree, if the green is too bright we could simply add a touch of red or maybe burnt sienna and it would grey or neautralise it.

Sometimes the focal point stands out better if it’s background is neutralised in the same way.
